Fitzroy North

The owners of this graceful Victorian residence in the heart of North Fitzroy were seeking help to re-plan a tired existing extension and create larger openings to improve aspect to the garden and deck. Working within the existing L shape envelope of the addition (built mid 2000’s) we re-planned the layout to feature a bespoke kitchen that segues to the outdoors via large operable doors and sliding picture windows. A statement marble island bench forms an informal dining hub for this busy family and is a feature in the bright and open entertaining space. The new dining area was wide enough to integrate a soft day bed, with a key adjacency to the deck & pool, giving a new logic to the existing building footprint.

With greater connection created to external living spaces, we worked with the client to develop a simple and fuss free palette, durable yet elegant. Warm white integrated cabinetry conceals abundant storage, a key part of this brief. Accents of oak joinery reveal hidden detailing and allow the client to reveal little features. New oak flooring forms a warm glow to the spaces and balances the white aesthetic, flowing seamlessly from the grand period hallway to the living spaces. Custom pivot glass doors close off the hallway, and acoustically divide the bedrooms and study spaces, whilst framing a new view from the front door. The central marble benchtop with honey/apricot hues forms the feature of the living space with some carefully selected lighting to further elevate the interiors. A classic and time resilient palette gently links the existing house to the building addition, delivering a light filled, beautiful and contemporary home.
